My first "big" interview was with Rivers Cumo from Weezer (a band I love to this day). In person (over a pot of tea at the then Stamford Plaza) he was incredibly introverted — VERY unlike the upbeat guy you see goofing around in the band's music videos. After every earnest question I asked there were looooong stretches — 20, 30, 40 seconds — of silence. Too busy feeling a little star struck and out of my depth, I gaped back at him rather than filling in the awkward silences. After those , River's thoughtfully considered answers came. It's a lesson I remember to this day — talk less, get better content
